Citizen watches at Nordur

Citizen is a Japanese watch brand from Tokyo with roots going back to 1918. The brand is best known for Eco-Drive: watches charged by light through the dial, which therefore never need a battery change – a technology Citizen has built on since the 1970s. At Nordur you will find 358 Citizen products – from DKK 595 to DKK 13.995. The range spans from the tool watches of Promaster and the light Super Titanium models to the mechanical Tsuyosa and Series 8, the small Citizen L for women and the ultra-thin Suratto.

About the Citizen series

Citizen groups its watches into families by use. Promaster are the tool watches for sea, air and land with a rotating bezel and high water resistance. Super Titanium and Zenshin are the light titanium watches, Tsuyosa and Series 8 are the mechanical lines, Elegance and Citizen L are the classic and small models, and Suratto are the thin dress watches. The many Eco-Drive, automatic and quartz models that do not belong to a named family are listed under the series Eco-Drive, Automatic and Quartz.

The movements are Citizen's own Japanese calibres. Nordur's range covers 12 series; the largest are Eco-Drive (122), Promaster (66), Elegance (37), Super Titanium (29), Automatic (25). Citizen Eco-Drive

Eco-Drive is Citizen's name for watches that are charged by light – daylight or lamplight – and therefore never need a battery change. Here we bring together the Eco-Drive models that do not belong to a named family: three-hand watches, chronographs, radio-controlled watches and sports models in steel and titanium, from small women's watches up to 48 mm. It is the largest group in the range and typically the most affordable way into the brand. At Nordur we carry 122 models from Eco-Drive for men and women, from DKK 895 to DKK 4.895. Citizen Promaster

Promaster is Citizen's tool watches for water, air and the outdoors and the largest named family in the range. Almost all are water resistant to 20 ATM, the dive models to 30 ATM, and the largest – a 53 mm dive watch in titanium – is rated to 100 ATM. Most have a rotating bezel and a screw-down crown. The vast majority are charged by light (Eco-Drive), but there are also automatic models. Here you'll find pilot's chronographs with world time and radio-controlled time, dive watches with a depth gauge and a few models with both an analogue and a digital display. The cases run from 36 to 53 mm. At Nordur we carry 66 models from Promaster for men and women, from DKK 1.595 to DKK 13.995. Citizen Elegance

Elegance is the classic watches, mainly for women, most between 28 and 34 mm, and the vast majority are charged by light. A few men's models in 43–44 mm have radio-controlled time, world time and a perpetual calendar. Typically with a steel bracelet and hardened mineral crystal or sapphire crystal. Men's and women's watches from Citizen

Citizen for men: 270 products, from DKK 595 to DKK 13.995. The men's watches are dive watches, pilot's watches, chronographs and classic three-hand watches in steel and titanium with diameters of 37–53 mm, classic watches, sports watches and chronograph watches / sports watches, and water resistance from 3 ATM / 30 metres to 100 ATM / 1000 metres.

Citizen for women: 97 items, from DKK 595 to DKK 2.795. The women's watches are mostly Citizen L and Elegance, plus Eco-Drive models in steel and titanium and the small Tsuyosa, diameter 22–39 mm and water resistance from 3 ATM / 30 metres to 20 ATM / 200 metres.

Gender is a guide, not a rule – the Tsuyosa in 37 mm and the Suratto are sold to both. Diameter matters more for how the watch sits: up to 34 mm looks small on most wrists, 38–41 mm is the classic medium size, and 42–46 mm is a large, sporty watch. Movement, glass and water resistance

The watches in the range have quartz movement (284) and automatic movement (74). Most quartz watches are Eco-Drive: a solar cell under the dial charges a rechargeable battery, and a fully charged watch runs for months in darkness, so the battery never needs changing. The automatic movements are wound by the movement of your arm and are Citizen's own calibres; several have a power reserve indicator on the dial. Glass: hardened mineral crystal (175), sapphire crystal (175) and mineral glass (8) – sapphire crystal stands up to keys and table edges without scratching, hardened mineral crystal is the usual choice at the lower end.

Water resistance ranges from 3 ATM / 30 metres (withstands rain and hand washing), 5 ATM / 50 metres (withstands a swim at the surface), 10 ATM / 100 metres (withstands swimming and snorkelling), 20 ATM / 200 metres (withstands diving without equipment), 30 ATM / 300 metres (withstands diving with equipment) and 100 ATM / 1000 metres. The figure is shown on every product and can be used as a filter. Whatever the rating, the crown and pushers should not be operated under water, and a leather strap lasts longest if it is kept dry.

How do I choose the right size?

The watches come in diameters from 22–53 mm. Measure your wrist: under 16 cm, watches up to 38 mm fit best, 16–18 cm suits 38–42 mm, and over 18 cm wears 44–46 mm well. Tsuyosa comes in both 37 and 40 mm, so it is a good place to try out what suits the wrist.
