Privacy
This is a translation. In case of doubt, the Danish version applies.
What we store about you, for how long, and why. It's short, because we store little.
The long and the short of it
- We don't track you. We count for ourselves how many people visit the site, and from which country — without cookies, without storing your IP address and without being able to recognise you from one day to the next. There are no analytics tools from others, no advertising pixels and no cookies from anyone but ourselves.
- We set one cookie, and only when you log in to Kredsen. The rest lives in your own browser, and you can clear it yourself.
- What we know about you, you wrote yourself: when you joined, at the checkout, in the contact form or in an enquiry about a product. You can see it, have it corrected or deleted by writing to kontakt@nordur.dk, and you can delete your membership yourself on your page.
Kredsen
If you join, we store your first name, last name, email, gender if you chose to provide it, and your password as a one-way hash (bcrypt), so no one, not even us, can read it. To make sure the email is yours, we send a link you need to tap; until then we store only a hash of the link's key, and a sign-up that hasn't been confirmed after a week is deleted entirely. You get an eight-digit member number, which appears on your page and in our emails about you, so we can find your membership when you write to us; it doesn't give access to anything. If you work for Nordur, your position and a four-digit employee number are also stored on your membership, together with the date of your staff benefit (a Silver card for as long as you're employed, and 250 points once); the number stays on the membership if you leave, so it isn't given to someone else. As an employee, you can add a photo, a nickname, a few lines about yourself, a phone number and your birthday (day and month, never the year) to your profile in the control panel. It's voluntary, it's only seen by your colleagues in the control panel, and you can edit or remove it yourself; the photo is stored on our web host under a random name and deleted with the membership. On top of that comes what the membership is about: when you joined and last logged in, your total purchases and your tier, your points, and a history of purchases, reservations and redemptions. If you redeem points, or save an address yourself on the Delivery address page, we store the delivery address you enter so it's filled in next time; you can remove it again in the same place.
Some members can add their birthday (day and month — never the year) on their page, so we can send a greeting and a gift on the day; it's stored on the membership together with the year the gift was last given, and you can remove it again in the same place. If you write to us from your page ("Write to us"), the message is stored as a conversation in our control panel in the same way as the contact form (see below), and we receive it by email; if you have a dedicated contact with us, they receive it too.
If you write a review of a watch, we store it on your membership: the nickname you chose, the stars, the headline, the text, the date and whether it has been read, shown or rejected. If we approve it, a copy with nickname, stars, text and date sits in the list the watch's page shows to everyone; your email isn't in it. If you delete the review on your page, or delete your membership, it also disappears from the watch's page. Your favourites (the heart next to a watch) are stored in your browser and as a list of product numbers on your membership; they're for members only.
If you write a review without being a member, we store the name you wrote, your email (not shown, used only if we have a question), the stars, the text, the date and a hash of your IP address in a queue until we have read it. If it's approved, the name, stars, text and date are shown on the watch's page; if you'd like it removed, write to kontakt@nordur.dk.
The information is kept on our web host at Simply.com in Denmark, outside what can be reached from the internet, and is used only for the membership: logging you in, working out points, sending receipts and messages about your orders, and a link if you forget your password. Kredsen gets one letter when there's something to tell, and you can opt out of it by deleting your membership. The list you can sign up to at the bottom of the pages is a separate thing — see The newsletter.
If you get a new email address, we can change it on your membership when you ask us to. We then keep the old address on the membership (at most the ten most recent), so links in emails you've already received still work, and so we can see when it was changed; both addresses are notified. The newsletter doesn't carry over — it requires a yes from the new address.
If you delete your membership on your page, the whole record is deleted immediately, points and history included. We keep no copy of the membership; paid orders do, however, stay in the accounts (see Purchase and payment).
Purchase and payment
When you buy on nordur.dk, you pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay in the payment window of our payment provider OnPay (onpay.io). The acquirer, which moves the money from your card, is Clearhaus A/S. You only enter your card details in OnPay's window, and they never reach us. If you pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay, Apple or Google passes the payment to OnPay, under their own terms — we still don't get your card number. The basket asks your browser whether it can use Apple Pay or Google Pay, so the buttons only appear when your browser supports them; we are not told the answer. If you use Chrome and there are items in the basket, the browser fetches Google Pay's details from Google to be able to answer, and Google then sees your IP address. OnPay and Clearhaus process the payment information under their own terms.
We store the order itself on our web host at Simply.com, outside what can be reached from the internet: your name, your email, your phone number if you gave it, the delivery address, the items, the amounts, any discount, gift wrapping and extended warranty, and from OnPay the transaction number, the payment method, the card type and whether the payment was approved with 3-D Secure — never the card number. We use the information to send the item, write to you about the order, make the invoice and help you with a return or a complaint.
Orders and invoices are part of our accounts, and the Danish Bookkeeping Act requires us to keep them for 5 years. If there are many orders, we move the oldest — more than a year old — to an archive on the same web host, where they stay for the 5 years. That is why a paid order remains, even if you delete your membership of Kredsen. A payment that was declined and did not move any money is deleted after 30 days.
The "Thanks for visiting" email
If you're a member of Kredsen, we store when you were last logged in on nordur.dk (only the time — not which pages you viewed). If you've been logged in without buying, we send you one email a day later with the watches you've saved as favourites, and your points — at most one a month, and not if you've just had a basket reminder. New members agree to it when they join; members from before 27 September 2026 only receive it if they have switched it on themselves. You switch it off using the link at the bottom of the e-mail, and the fact that you said yes or no is recorded in our log as a consent.
Basket reminder
If you join Kredsen from 1 October 2026, you agree to it when you join; members from before only receive it if they have switched it on themselves. If you are logged in, we store which items and how many are in your basket when you view it, and if you leave them there for a day without buying them, we send you one e-mail with them — at most one per basket and at most one a week. We don't write if you have bought in the meantime, and we don't keep the basket for longer than a week after you last changed it. You switch it off using the link at the bottom of the e-mail, and we then delete the stored basket. Whether you said yes or no is recorded in our log as consent.
Price drops on your favourites
If you join Kredsen from 1 October 2026, you agree to it when you join; members from before only receive it if they have switched it on themselves. We then store the price of each of your favourites as it is when you add it (or when you said yes), and if one of them is reduced on the item's page so that it is at least 5 % and at least 100 kr. cheaper, we send you one e-mail with them — at most one a week, and the same price drop only once. If you remove a favourite, we delete its price. You switch it off using the link at the bottom of the e-mail, and we then delete the stored prices. Whether you said yes or no is recorded in our log as consent.
The contact form
If you write to us through the form, your name, email, subject, what your enquiry is about, message — and, if you fill them in, phone number, order number and attached files — are sent as an email to kontakt@nordur.dk and to the inbox where we read our mail. The email also contains the IP address the message came from, so we can tell misuse from genuine enquiries. You get an email receipt with the first 300 characters of what you wrote. The same applies to the withdrawal form and the claims portal, which send the same way. Attached files (at most three images or PDFs) are only sent with the email to us; they aren't stored on the site and aren't included in the receipt. The message stays in our mailbox until the matter is closed and isn't used for anything other than replying to you.
The message is also stored in our control panel as a conversation with a number, so we can see who replied and what, and keep track of it — with the files you attach and the replies we send you. Only employees in the control panel can see it. If you reply to an email from us and the conversation, case or enquiry number is in the email, your reply (the text, without the quoted part — attached files stay in the mailbox) is automatically added in the same place, so the whole conversation is kept together; this only happens when you reply from the same email address. A conversation is deleted two years after the last message; if you'd like it deleted sooner, write to us. If the message is about a return, a claim or a withdrawal, it's stored as a case (see below).
Returns, claims and withdrawals
If you start a return, make a claim or withdraw from a purchase — in the returns portal, the claims portal, the withdrawal form or in the contact form with one of those three subjects — we store it as a case with a case number so we can keep track of where it stands: your name, your email, your phone number and order number if you provide them, what you've written and chosen, when you received the item, and the images or files you attach. Our replies to you and an internal note are stored on the case. The case and the images are kept on our own server, outside the public site, and only employees in our control panel can see them.
When the case is closed, we delete it and the images three years later — for as long as a claim, for example under the statutory warranty, can be made. If you'd like it deleted sooner, write to kontakt@nordur.dk.
Track your order
If you look up an order under Track your order, your browser sends the order number and email to us, and we only show the order if the two match: status, dates, the items, the amount and the tracking number — never the address or anything else about you. We don't store what you searched for. So that no one can guess their way to other people's orders, we count lookups per IP address for an hour (at most 20); the counter doesn't contain the IP address itself and is deleted again.
The emails we send you
We keep a copy of the emails we send you — order confirmations, shipping updates, invoices, replies from customer service and the like — with your email address, the subject, the time and the message itself. That way our staff can see what you have received about an order and send an email again if you cannot find it. For newsletters we only keep a record that they were sent. The copies are deleted after 400 days at the latest.
Invitation to review us on Trustpilot
When your order has been delivered, we send your name, your email address and the order number to Trustpilot — nothing else about you or your order — and Trustpilot uses them only to send you an invitation to review us (and at most one reminder). We invite every customer in the same way — whatever they bought, and without knowing what they will write — but not our own staff. It is up to you whether you write a review, and it has no effect on your points or your rights.
We do this because honest reviews from real customers help others choose (our legitimate interest, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Trustpilot (Trustpilot A/S, Copenhagen) sends the invitation on our behalf; if you write a review, Trustpilot's own terms and privacy policy apply to it. If you do not want invitations, you can unsubscribe with the link in Trustpilot's email — or write to kontakt@nordur.dk, and we will not send your details to Trustpilot again and will ask Trustpilot to delete those they hold.
Enquiries about a product
If you tap "Send an enquiry" on a product page — for example to ask whether we can order in the watch — we store the product, what you're asking about, your message, your name and your email (if you're logged in to Kredsen, those from your membership) and a hash of your IP address, so we can tell misuse from genuine enquiries. If you ask for a price match, we also store the link to the offer, the price there and your order number, if you have given it. You get an email receipt with the first 300 characters of what you wrote, and we receive a notification of the enquiry.
We use the information to reply to you and to keep track of where the matter stands — for example that a product has been ordered in for you. Our replies are sent from kontakt@nordur.dk and stored on the enquiry. If you ask when a sold-out product will be back in stock, you get one email when we put it back in stock — that's the answer to your enquiry, and the enquiry notes that it has been sent. We don't use the address for anything else. Once the matter is closed, we delete it within a year at the latest; if you'd like it deleted sooner, write to kontakt@nordur.dk. An enquiry doesn't commit either you or us to anything.
Visitor statistics
We count for ourselves how many people are on the site, and where in the world they come from — without cookies and without any outside service. When a page is opened, your browser sends us the page's address, your time zone and your language (e.g. "Europe/Copenhagen" and "da-DK") and the name of the site that sent you here (e.g. "google.com" — never what you searched for). While the page is open, it sends a small signal every 30 seconds, so we can see how many people are on the site right now.
We look up the country from the time zone, not your IP address. Your IP address isn't stored: to count you as one visitor rather than ten when you view ten pages, we create a key from the IP address, your browser's name and a random value that is changed and deleted every night. The key can't be worked backwards, and tomorrow you're a new visitor to us. Apart from today's keys, we store only numbers: how many visitors, page views and visits per day, broken down by country, where they came from, type of device (mobile, tablet or computer) and which pages were viewed. The numbers are kept for 13 months at Simply.com in Denmark and are seen only by Nordur's employees in the control panel.
The only thing stored in your browser is the name of the site your visit started from (e.g. "google.com", or that you came directly) — in the tab's temporary memory (nordur-ankomst), which is cleared when you close the tab. If you buy, it is sent along, and we store the source (e.g. "Google" or "Direct") on the order, so we can see where sales come from. It's never the address or what you searched for.
If you've switched on Global Privacy Control or "Do Not Track" in your browser, we don't count you, and the source isn't stored.
Cookies
nordur_kreds is set when you log in or join Kredsen, and keeps you logged in for 30 days. It contains only a random session number. It's needed for My page and the Pointshop to work, and it isn't set until you log in yourself.
It's the only cookie we set ourselves. Our web host (Simply.com) also sets a security cookie (sc_clearance) when your browser has passed its check against bots — it's needed for the site to be shown, and says nothing about who you are. There are no cookies for statistics, advertising or tracking. The cookie dialogue on the listing pages therefore only asks about what's necessary, and your answer is stored in your own browser.
What stays only in your browser
The site uses the browser's own storage (localStorage) for things that don't need to go via us:
- The basket (
nordur-vault): the items you've added to the basket. - Cart number (
nordur-kurv-id): a random number that only says "this cart". If your cart holds an item from our own stock, we set it aside for you on the server under that number — together with a shortened hash of your IP address, so a single script cannot set the whole stock aside — for at most 30 minutes after your last tap and at most 2 hours in total, and the information is deleted no later than half an hour after that. The number says nothing about who you are. - Your first name (
nordur-kreds): so the front page can say "My page" instead of "Become a member", without asking the server. Removed when you log out. - Your choice in the cookie dialogue (
nordurCookies), so it doesn't ask again. - A discount code you've entered in the basket (
nordur-kodein sessionStorage): it's forgotten when you close the tab. If you arrive via a partner's link with a discount code, the code is placed here for you. - A partner link (
nordur-partner), but only if you've said yes yourself: see below. - The extended warranty you've chosen for a watch (
nordur-garantiin sessionStorage): forgotten when you close the tab. If you pay, the warranty is shown on the order with a warranty number, watch, years, price and period. We keep it for as long as the warranty applies, and after that for as long as the order, because it's part of the accounts — even if you delete your membership, since the warranty is an agreement you can still use. - That you've chosen gift wrapping, and your message (
nordur-gaveandnordur-gave-hilsenin sessionStorage): they're forgotten when you close the tab. If you pay, your choice and the greeting are shown on the order, so we can write the greeting by hand. - Where your visit began (
nordur-ankomstin sessionStorage), e.g. "google.com": sent with an order and forgotten when you close the tab. See Visitor statistics. - Your favourites when you're logged in (
nordur-favoritter), the list that was last in sync with your membership (nordur-favoritter-synk), and which membership they belong to — your email (nordur-favoritter-ejer), so someone else who logs in on the same computer doesn't get yours. All three are removed when you log out. - That the chat was open (
nordur-assistent-aabenin sessionStorage), so it's open again on the next page; it's forgotten when you close the tab.
Partner links. Some of our partners share links such as nordur.dk/p/name and receive a percentage of what is bought through them. When you tap such a link, our server counts the click — only a number per day, no IP address or anything else about you — and sends you on. If the partner has a discount code, it's ready in your basket, and if you use it, the order shows that it came through the partner. Without a discount code, the site asks whether we may remember the link for 30 days; if you say yes, the link's name and the time are stored in your browser (nordur-partner) and sent along if you buy within those 30 days. If you say no, nothing is stored. The partner never gets your name, your email or what you've bought — only the amount the commission is calculated from appears in our own accounts.
When the basket is shown, it sends the product numbers, the quantities and any discount code to our server, which works out today's prices, campaigns and the discount and sends the figures back. If you're logged in to Kredsen, your tier is used for the member discount. It isn't stored. If you use a discount code for a purchase, the discount appears on the order, and we count how many times the code has been used — not who used it. The rest isn't sent to us. You clear it by clearing your browser's data for nordur.dk, or by logging out and emptying the basket.
The newsletter ("Sign me up")
If you enter your email in the field at the bottom of our listing pages, we store the address, the time it was signed up, and a note of where it happened, and we send a link to the address. Only when you tap the link are you on the list — so no one can sign up other people's addresses. Until then we store only a hash of the link's key, and a sign-up that hasn't been confirmed after a week is deleted entirely. If you confirm, we also store the time you did so: that's your consent, and we need to be able to show it.
You can also sign up in the pop-up or on nyhedsbrev.html with your first name and email; we then also store your first name, so the letters can greet you with it. In periods when we give a discount code for signing up, we create a personal code for you and note on your address which code you received and in which period, so it's only given once per address per period; in our list of discount codes, the code appears only with a shortened hash of your address, not the address itself. The pop-up remembers in your own browser (the localStorage key nordur-tilbud) whether you've closed it or signed up, so it doesn't keep appearing.
Every letter has a link to unsubscribe. If you unsubscribe, we note it on your address so we don't write to you again; if you'd like the address deleted entirely, write to kontakt@nordur.dk. Sign-up, confirmation and unsubscribing are also recorded in a log in our control panel. The list is kept at Simply.com in Denmark, outside what can be reached from the internet, and is used only to send news from Nordur — we don't sell or share it. We don't send newsletters yet; the list is being collected until we do.
We send the newsletters ourselves from our own server, from kontakt@nordur.dk — only to those who have confirmed their sign-up. We store which letters have been sent, and to how many, but not who opened them or clicked anything: there's no tracking pixel and there are no tracked links in the letters.
The assistant
At the bottom right of every page you can open Nordur Assistant, a chat that answers questions about watches, delivery, returns and Kredsen. The answers come from Nord, Nordur's own AI, which runs on our own server at Simply.com: what you write doesn't leave the house and isn't sent to any outside language model. If you're logged in to Kredsen, the chat sends your first name along so Nord can greet you by name — it isn't stored. Nord learns from the conversations: if a question gets no answer and the next wording hits a topic, the first wording is stored (only the text, at most 200 characters) as an example of that topic in a file on our server, without a name or IP address. If at some point we switch on the language model Claude from Anthropic as extra help, it will say so here on this page, and what you write, and the name of the page you're on, will then be sent to Anthropic's service together with our own information about the site (under their terms for business customers, Anthropic doesn't use the conversation to train its models). The conversation is remembered in your own browser (the localStorage key nordur-assistent), and "Delete conversation" in the chat removes it there. Each question and answer is also stored with us without a name, IP address or anything else that points to you — only the text, the time and which page you were on — so we can read what people ask about and make the assistant better (our employees read the log in our internal control panel and can teach Nord a question it couldn't answer); so please don't write personal information in the chat. The log is kept at Simply.com in Denmark and deleted after 12 months at the latest. To keep a cap on how many questions can be asked per hour and per day, the server stores a counter under a hash of your IP address for that hour and that day; the files are deleted again once they're more than a day old. The assistant is a machine and can make mistakes — never write passwords or payment details to it, and contact us at kontakt@nordur.dk when it needs to be secure. The chat also sends the contents of the basket (product numbers and quantities, nothing else), so Nord can answer what's in it and what it costs — it isn't stored beyond the answer in the anonymous log.
Nordur's employees can also ask Nord in the control panel, for example about a case or an order. Those questions and Nord's answers are stored internally for 90 days — without storing who asked — so we can make Nord better. If an employee has mentioned you by name in a question, it stays there for that time; the log is only seen in the control panel.
Fonts
The site's fonts, Cormorant Garamond, Inter and Oswald, are stored on our own server at Simply.com and are loaded from there like every other file. Your browser fetches nothing from Google or anyone else to display the text.
The web host's log files
Like all web hosts, our web host keeps an access log with IP address, time, the page that was fetched and the browser's name. It's used to find errors and keep bots out, and it's deleted by the web host after a short time. To cap how many times per hour someone can log in, join or request a new link, we also store a counter under a hash of your IP address; it applies for at most an hour and is deleted again within a couple of hours.
Your rights
You can always find out what we've stored about you, have it corrected or deleted, and have it handed over. Write to kontakt@nordur.dk from the address you registered with, and we'll reply within 24 hours on working days. You can also delete your membership yourself on your page under "Delete membership". If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to Datatilsynet (the Danish Data Protection Agency).
