Folding clasp or buckle?

A buckle (tang buckle) is the classic: a tang through a hole in the strap, as on a belt. A folding clasp (deployant) holds the strap in a closed loop and folds out when you open it — so the watch can't fall off while you put it on, and the strap wears less because it isn't bent at the hole every day. A butterfly is a folding clasp that opens to both sides and is almost invisible when closed; a safety clasp is an extra flap over the fold on sports and dive watches.

Which clasp an item has is listed in the specifications. A folding clasp for a leather strap is usually bought for the specific strap width — ask us via contact if you are unsure about a model.

If you have a question about a particular watch, ask Nord, our assistant, at the bottom right — or write to us.
