Lug width and changing straps

Lug width is the distance between the two lugs the strap sits between, measured in millimetres (typically 18, 20 or 22 mm on men's watches, 12–16 mm on women's watches) — and it is the number a new strap needs to match. It is listed in the item's specifications, or you can measure it with a ruler between the lugs.

The strap is held by spring bars: small spring-loaded pins that are changed with a small tool — or without a tool if the strap has quick release (a small lever on the back that you pull). Watches with an integrated bracelet, e.g. the Alpina Alpiner Extreme, have shaped end links, so only straps made for the model will fit.

If you have a question about a particular watch, ask Nord, our assistant, at the bottom right — or write to us.
